Two Kelley School professors receive promotions

Congratulations to Peggy Daniels Lee and M. Kim Saxton on their promotions to clinical associate professor and clinical professor, respectively, in the Kelley School of Business on the IUPUI campus.

“This accomplishment is the result of years of hard work for both Peggy and Kim,” said Ken Carow, executive associate dean of faculty and research—Indianapolis. “I am proud of their great work in teaching, scholarship and service to the Kelley School, IUPUI and Indiana University.”

Peggy Daniels Lee, clinical associate professor of operations and supply chain management, has served as faculty chair for the Kelley Undergraduate Program at IUPUI since 2010. She teaches operations management and sourcing at both the undergraduate and MBA levels.

Lee’s academic work has been presented at the Decision Sciences Institute, the Academy of Management, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and the International Workshop on Enterprise and Organizational Modeling and Simulation (EOMAS). She has published in the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, the Journal of Virtual Worlds Research, the Journal of Healthcare Management and Supply Chain Forum, which is published by the University of Lausanne.

Since 2007, Lee has conducted research and taught using three-dimensional virtual worlds. Her work has been presented at the Academy of Management, the Decision Sciences Institute, the Second Life Community Convention, the International Workshop on Enterprise, Organizational Modeling and Simulation (EOMAS), the Indiana University Center for Teaching and Learning, the virtual community Teach for Success, Midwest Decision Sciences Institute Annual Meetings, Northeast Decision Sciences Institute Annual Meetings, the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference, among a number of organizations and venues.

“Peggy Lee is a gifted administrator and teacher,” said Carow. “Under her leadership, our honors program has grown from 90 to 150 students and our undergraduate program has grown from 996 to 1223. She leads by example as is frequently demonstrated by the number of faculty who frequently ask her advice on pedagogy, technology, and curriculum both from our own Kelley faculty as well as through her many publications and presentations on these topics. She is a leader in implementing technology in the classroom and enhancing experiential learning opportunities.”

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve and work alongside the students, faculty and staff of Kelley, IUPUI and IU for the last nine years,” said Lee. “My singular wish is that my students graduate and go on to become productive citizens who make positive contributions to our global society. I hope that, in some small way, I have made their lives richer for having been a part of them. They have certainly enriched my life for having been a part of mine.”   

 Lee serves on the board of advisors for the business program at Ivy Tech, as president of the Midwest Decision Sciences Institute and as education chair for the Indianapolis Roundtable of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.

In addition to her doctorate in logistics and operations from the George Washington University, Lee holds a BA in English literature from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina. She also holds a graduate certificate in project management and an advanced online teaching certificate from the Online Learning Consortium. Her industry experience includes a 20-year career in telecommunications and banking, where she held multiple managerial positions, most notably as a project manager leading national and international network infrastructure projects.


Kim Saxton, clinical professor of marketing, has more than 30 years of experience helping companies make their data practical. She believes good marketers find a way to blend both art and science to be successful. At the Kelley School on the IUPUI campus, Saxton has taught marketing courses at both the MBA and undergraduate levels since 2004.

Saxton has published broadly on new data analysis techniques, effective advertising and the impact of different kinds of promotions. She is currently an associate editor at the  Journal of Advertising Research. She has also published in  Marketing Science,  Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Business Research, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Corporate Reputation Review, Reputation Management, Psychometrika and  Journal of Research in Science Teaching.

Saxton continues to hone her skills as a successful marketer by working with local startups to help launch and expand their businesses. She started her career in consulting, and other roles have included vice president at Walker Information, global market research manager at Eli Lilly and Company, executive director of marketing at Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals and partner of her own competitive intelligence and strategic planning consulting firm. She has provided insights to the decision making of a variety of Fortune 500 firms.

“Kim Saxton is a gifted teacher who has demonstrated her skills and ability in a wide variety of venues,” said Carow. “Saxton engages students in rich experiences in the community, and she remains a mentor to students long after they graduate and start their careers.  Her alumni and business connections provide students with a rich network to learn about the profession, to be engaged and to secure job opportunities.  Saxton has demonstrated a breadth of excellent achievements as a mentor and as a leader for the Kelley School, IUPUI and our community. “

 “My mission is to help others achieve their best potential,” said Saxton. “I am thrilled and honored that Indiana University recognizes my ability to do just that for our students. I look forward to helping Kelley students garner the momentum to create positive change and contribute to businesses of the future.”

Saxton has a BS in marketing from MIT and an MBA and PhD in marketing from Indiana University. She has taught both undergraduate and master’s courses at IU and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has facilitated executive education at the University of Wisconsin, Walker Information and Eli Lilly and Company, where she received an award for teaching excellence.

At Indiana University, her teaching has been recognized with the Schuyler F. Otteson Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award for Full-time Faculty, the Teaching Excellence Award, the Lilly MBA Teaching Excellence Award and the IU President’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Saxton was most recently recognized with a Woman’s Leadership Award by IUPUI’s Office for Women in 2018.
