Kelley marketing professor to offer social media insight at minority business fair

Posted on June 20, 2012 by Teresa Mackin

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Clinical Associate Professor of Marketing M. Kim Saxton will offer a social media workshop at the 2012 Central Indiana Minority and Women’s Enterprises Division Resource Fair this summer. The theme for this year’s event is “Positioning Your Business For Growth.” Saxton will discuss why social media is so important to business owners and how to craft and promote a message.

“Social media allows customers to interact with you,” said Saxton. “It engages a two-way conversation using ‘show, not tell’ marketing and gives customers a way to share, too.”

This is the second time in less than a year in which Saxton has volunteered her time to teach the business implications of social media. Last December she offered an NFL Playbook Workshop as part of the professional development series leading up to the Indianapolis Super Bowl. In her upcoming workshop, Saxton plans to include additional information on the use of YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and content marketing.

“One of the keys to success is giving your brand advocates ideas and ways to share your content with their friends,” she said.

The 2012 Central Indiana MWBE Resource Fair will be July 17 at the Indiana Government Center Conference Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and registration encouraged.
