Spring Break: It’s Time To Recover

Posted on March 14, 2014 by Teresa Mackin

Whew. This year has been full of surprises with the weather being the main culprit. At this point, Antarctica is laughing at Indiana. But, luckily, it’s about time to hit up the sunny beaches and get away from the bitter cold that we’ve all been forced trudge through. Often students use Spring Break to catch up with their old friends who attend different universities or catch a free meal from their parents, but I like to see it as a time to recover. At this point in the semester, I’m hitting the wall. I’m a full-time student, I work part-time to build up some savings for next year, and whilst juggling these two lifestyles, I have to deal with homework and projects. It’s not an easy task, and I know I’m not alone when I say that.

There is a reason why it’s called a “break.” Sometimes it’s really nice to just take a day off and relieve some stress. Whether that be lying in bed all day watching Netflix or taking a walk along the canal, it’s a nice reminder that you don’t have to tire yourself in just one semester. As students and faculty, we all deserve one of those days in the week where we just let it all go. And to have a a whole week of those days? Talk about luxury.

I hope everyone enjoys their Spring Break and gets to add to their stockpile of good memories. Go ahead, take a selfie on the beach, play catch outside with your dad like old times. You deserve it. Just remember to be safe and responsible because this semester isn’t over; it’s just starting. The finish line is almost there, but not quite. I mean who’s counting the days until summer anyhow? … There are 100 days.
