Faculty to present at Entrepreneur Boot Camp

Posted on August 10, 2012 by Teresa Mackin

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Economic recessions have historically spawned new businesses. More than half of all Fortune 500 companies got their start during a downturn, according to the Kaufman Foundation. To assist potential founders in Central Indiana, TechPoint and Ice Miller are hosting an Indiana Entrepreneur Boot Camp September 20. The daylong seminar will feature 25 well-known entrepreneurs and experts such as Todd Saxton, Kelley School of Business associate professor of strategy and entrepreneurship and Indiana Venture Faculty Fellow.

In his presentation, Saxton will cover the key ingredients of a successful venture strategy, and how to communicate the story to attract advocates and achieve the venture’s potential.

“While the notion of the business plan as a formal road map that ensures business success is misplaced, venture strategy remains essential for the would-be entrepreneur,” explained Saxton. “Crafting and telling a compelling story about the idea, the market opportunity and the path to success is essential for attracting not just investors but customers, advisors, fellow team members, and other stakeholders. Having a ‘lean startup’ should not translate to having a weak or nonexistent strategy!”

Saxton is an active member of the Indianapolis venture community. He runs Kelley’s DIVE program, which links Evening MBA students with founders and high-growth ventures in Central Indiana and beyond. He sits on the Board of the Venture Club, is an active angel investor, and has helped numerous ventures with launch strategy, funding, and growth plans.

Indiana Entrepreneur Bootcamp will be held September 20 at Mavris Arts & Event Center.
