AUGUST 2020 – The Indiana University Kelley School of Business at IUPUI welcomes two new faculty members this fall.

Coers will lead the IU real estate program’s efforts on IUPUI’s campus.  She has 15 years of experience in commercial real estate appraisal, with a specialty in expert witness testimony. Coers most recently served as senior vice president at Pillar Valuation Group, Inc., and before that, was the managing director at Valbridge Property Advisors.

Coers received her MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute in 2009, she holds her certified general real estate appraiser license in Indiana, and she received her master’s in technical and scientific communication from Miami University in Ohio. She was an instructor and program vice chair for the Institute for Professionals in Taxation’s Real Property Tax School from 2013-2018, and she was named Instructor of the Year in 2015. Coers has spent time as an adjunct professor at the University of Indianapolis and has worked with real estate classes through the Kelley School since 2015.

“As the first full-time Kelley faculty member in real estate based at IUPUI, I am most looking forward to bringing greater opportunities in real estate to Kelley Indianapolis students. I’m excited about increasing the quantity and quality of our internship opportunities in real estate, growing the Real Estate Club, working on our Commercial Real Estate Workshop, and building on relationships between IUPUI and real estate companies in Indianapolis,” said Coers. “Real estate can open doors to new opportunities and put students one step ahead. I can’t wait to get started.”

“Adding to our program at IUPUI with a full-time faculty member like Sara will be transformative toward Kelley IUPUI better serving Indianapolis’ outstanding commercial real estate industry,” said Doug McCoy, director of the IU Center for Real Estate Studies. “Sara brings to the program experience, technical expertise, local relationships, and a passion for teaching students about commercial real estate.”

Brian Vander Schee joins the faculty as a visiting clinical assistant professor of marketing. Vander Schee will teach the I-Core marketing course, marketing analytics and digital marketing. His areas of expertise are digital marketing, social media, branding, consumer engagement, online complimenting behavior and innovations in marketing education. He has published his research in Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing, Journal for Marketing of Higher Education, Journal of Marketing Education, Journal of Education for Business and Journal of the Academy of Business Education, among others.

I am really looking forward to the opportunity to work with both the faculty and students.”

“Our new faculty bring with them a variety of expertise and passions that will enhance the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI’s scholarship and teaching, especially in the fields of real estate and digital marketing,” said Ken Carow, executive associate dean for faculty and research and professor of finance at the Kelley School. “They build on the passion of Kelley faculty to engage students in participatory learning, leading from moment to momentum.
