New faculty chair for Kelley School Evening MBA Program

Posted on May 30, 2018 by Teresa Mackin

INDIANAPOLIS — Kelley School of Business Dean Idalene “Idie” Kesner and Associate Dean Philip T. Powell have named Kyle J. Anderson faculty chair of the top-ranked Evening MBA Program.

A clinical assistant professor of business economics, Anderson has taught managerial economics and quantitative methods in the Evening MBA core courses for a decade. His research focuses on pricing, auctions, and online markets. Anderson has published several articles in academic journals, and his research has been featured in the New York Times and other national media outlets.

“We thank Kyle for accepting this pivotal leadership position within the Kelley School on IUPUI’s campus,” said Powell. “As an active member of the Kelley School Business Economic Outlook Panel through the Indiana Business Research Center and a frequent voice in the local business media, Kyle is well-positioned to move this program forward. His energy, positivity, openness and commitment to students is contagious, and we know the program is in good hands as we move forward.”

“I am honored to be chosen for this position,” said Anderson. “I feel strongly we have the best part-time program in the state and one of the best in the nation. The Kelley School develops top talent and leaders within the business community, and we will continue to grow and provide value to central Indiana and beyond.

“The economy in central Indiana is booming: Technology, manufacturing, and financial services companies are thriving. For many businesses, the only thing holding them back is a talent shortage. They need managers and leaders. They need men and women with technical skills and a top MBA. We provide this talent. We want our program to grow, but more importantly, we want to produce the talent that will make the central Indiana economy grow.”

Anderson succeeds Steve Jones, professor of finance, who stepped down from the faculty chair position to resume full-time teaching and research.

In addition to teaching in the Evening MBA Program, Anderson has taught in the Business of Medicine Physician MBA, Kelley Direct Online MBA and Undergraduate programs. He has received multiple teaching awards, including the 2018 Lilly Alumni MBA Teaching Excellence Award, the highest teaching award given each year to a professor in the Evening MBA Program.

“Students in our MBA programs constantly amaze me. They work high-level jobs, have families, volunteer in the community and thrive in our classes,” said Anderson. “When I realize how much time, energy and effort our students commit to the program, I know that I owe it to them to bring the best experiences I can possibly create in the classroom. The Kelley faculty and our Evening MBA Program owe them our best every single day, and as chair, that is what I hope to bring them.”
