Kelley Indy team takes second in annual case competition

Posted on October 31, 2016 by Teresa Mackin

Congratulations are in order for the Kelley Indianapolis team who participated in the annual Kelley-Krannert case competition. The team took second place this year.

Kelley Indianapolis hosted the competition between the Kelley School and Purdue’s Krannert School of Management. The two schools have been sending four teams of four students to the competition for nearly two decades. Based on enrollment, Kelley Bloomington sends three teams, and Kelley Indianapolis sends one.

This year, students Stephanie Atallah, Emily Crites, Brandon Edwards, and Martina Fialova represented Kelley Indianapolis. They came in a very close second place: 0.03 of a point away from the winning team from Kelley Bloomington.

The case was a component sourcing decision for Rolls-Royce, which served as the primary sponsor for the event.

Business students received the case Friday afternoon, and they had until Saturday morning to determine a recommendation.

“The case study was presented by a company itself, and the judges were from that company,” said Fialova, BS’17, a supply chain and finance major. “I think the most valuable part of this experience was the feedback we received about our presentation. It was a big benefit to be critiqued by working professionals.”

The panel of judges included five representatives from Rolls-Royce and several from other local companies, including Kelley Indianapolis supply chain management alumni Tessa (Kulhawick) Smillie (Cummins) and Adam Keyler (Allegion). Lisa (Houseman) Eagle, also a Kelley Indy graduate, was the primary case writer; she has worked at Rolls-Royce since graduation.
