IU Kelley School of Business at IUPUIGo from Moment to Momentum

Top 100 Profile: Kurtis Oldiges

Posted on March 30, 2016 by Teresa Mackin

In the days leading up to the IUPUI Top 100 Outstanding Students Recognition Dinner, we will be featuring our Kelley students who have been named a Top 100 for 2016.

What has been your favorite experience so far at Kelley?

My favorite Kelley experience was during the Regatta. Myself and three other Kelley honor students rowed on a team. At the beginning of the race we were in first place, but the situation quickly changed when our canoe flipped over. My teammate and I went from first to last, but were laughing the whole time.

What has been your favorite class and why?

My favorite class has been financial accounting. At the time, I never though I would remotely like accounting. I was blessed with a wonderful teacher that help me understand the whole process and discovered the love of the logic embellished in accounting. Even though BUS-A204 was my favorite, I enjoyed BUS-X103, BUS-X105, BUS-L204, and BUS-P371.

If you had to pick one professor that has impacted you the most while at Kelley, who would it be?

I have been blessed with so many great professors which makes it hard to select one that has impacted me the most. Every teacher provided me with different perspectives and understanding.

Where do you see yourself after you graduate?

When I finish my education, I strive to be commissioned as an Infantry Officer in the Indiana Army National Guard. In addition I want to work for a progressive company in which I am able to make a great contribution and get professional credit for the CPA certification. Most importantly I want to get more involved in local government and discuss plans that can solve issues at a local level.

Favorite activity/extracurricular activity that you have been involved in while at Kelley?

I have a difficult time deciding a particular Kelley associated extracurricular to choose. It’s a tie between Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) and Delta Sigma Pi (DSP). I have been able to have leadership roles in both of these organizations and consider these communities family.

What is your Kelley moment?

can simplify my Kelley moment in 3 categories; Freshman introduction classes, student organizations, and internships. In short, I built off every experience I have had and created millions of small moments which made me who I am today. Because I had BUS-X103 and BUS X105 I became fascinated with the business world and looked into student organizations to get more involved. When I joined student organizations I was able to build professional connections to get internships. During my internships, I met other Kelley students who became my mentors who shaped me into a Top 100 student. Overall, Kelley impacted who I am today.
