Kelley School of Business Indianapolis students competed in Celadon 24-Hour Team Case Study competition

Posted on November 22, 2013 by Teresa Mackin

Kelley School of Business Indianapolis students competed recently for cash and bragging rights during the Celadon 24-Hour Team Case Study competition. Teams from IUPUI, Butler University, Franklin College and the University of Indianapolis also participated.

The case study competition gives students the opportunity for real experience in consulting and business problem solving. Students also had the opportunity to practice their networking skills with Celadon senior-management and industry professionals.

On the first day of competition, following a Celadon facility tour, three Kelley Indianapolis teams had 24 hours to analyze and prepare presentations of their cases. The case encumbered how to reduce the turnover rate of drivers–a major problem for the trucking industry.

Students from the first team are supply chain management and marketing majors Korinne Bortz, Heather Conner and George Higgins, as well as marketing major Patrick O’Toole. Kelley’s second team included supply chain management and marketing majors John Gause and Angelina Ramos, as well as Rishi Chandra, an accounting and supply chain management major, and Sara Suarez, a marketing, international studies and supply chain major. Finance major Jacob Clark, management major Payne Chestnut and Andrew Couch, an accounting and finance major, comprised the third team. Team two came in a very close second to the winning team from Butler.

“This was a completely new industry for me. I didn’t know much about it, but this competition has surely helped me broaden my horizons and look into opportunities in various fields,” said Chandra, who is a senior. “It was great to get feedback from the judges regarding the things we could have done better and things that we should focus on while we present.”
