Leading market strategist of Fifth Third Bank to visit IUPUI

Posted on October 23, 2013 by Teresa Mackin

Fifth Third Bank’s Chief Investment Strategist John Augustine on Wednesday will speak to Kelley School of Business Indianapolis students about various investment topics and provide insight into the current and future economic climate.

The discussion, which follows the annual economic forecast report for the region issued by Augustine and Fifth Third Bank, will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Lilly Auditorium of the IUPUI University Library.

Augustine, based in Cincinnati, has been practicing portfolio management for more than 20 years. He has worked in various investment roles with Fifth Third Bancorp during the past 15 years.

He currently manages the investment and market strategy for the Bancorp, which handles more than $27 billion in private investments for its customers. Augustine supplies economic, business and market commentary across the organization, and he is the portfolio manager of the International ADR Stock Portfolio, a member of the investment strategy team for the Investment Management Group and a portfolio manager within the Private Bank.

“We are seeing early signs of a resynchronized global economic pick-up in 2014,” Augustine said. “In the US, the private sector continues to do reasonably well, with the stress remaining in the public sector of the economy.”

Considered one of the leading market strategists in the country, Augustine has appeared on numerous national media outlets, including Fox News, CNBC and Bloomberg as well as media across Fifth Third’s central Indiana footprint.

During his visit with Kelley students, Augustine will provide insight into the national and international markets, including progress reports for 2013, predictions for 2014 and understanding of how the recent Washington politics has and will impact the economy. Analysis for the world economy, as well as information on the growing Indiana and Indianapolis economies, also will be explained.

Free admission and registration is open to Kelley School of Business Indianapolis students.
