Kelley alumna named 2012 CFO of the year

Posted on December 7, 2012 by Teresa Mackin

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—A Kelley School of Business Indianapolis alumna has been honored by the  Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) as a top chief financial officer. Kay Whitaker (BS ’82, MBA ’92), CFO of the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), was named Top Honoree in the not-for-profit category.

In its  article announcing Whitaker’s achievements, the  IBJ lauded her for efforts to manage the $584 million public foundation, described as a “community chest” that manages 850 charitable funds, invested together but handled in adherence to the specific wishes of the donors and advisors. CICF works with major organizations such as the Glick Fund, the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, The Indianapolis Foundation, Indianapolis Parks Foundation and Lacy Leadership Association.

“I am privileged to sit in a seat that has access to the thoughts of the best investors in the world,” Whitaker told the  IBJ. “Before the Wall Street meltdown, everyone was chasing yield, believing that tomorrow would always be better. Now we are equally certain that we are uncertain about just about everything. We can never actually know, but we can choose a path and adapt. Right now many indicators show evidence of a global healing and correction.”

Whitaker received both an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Kelley Indianapolis. She arrived at CICF in 2007 with more than 25 years of service on not-for-profit boards. With a background in private and public sectors, Whitaker served as a corporate officer in energy, health and financial service firms. As a consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, she advised multi-billion dollar firms on finance operations, governance and risk management. Whitaker also helped found Grameen American Indianapolis, a not-for-profit micro-lending venture with nearly 500 members locally.

Kelley School of Business Indianapolis is proud to congratulate Kay Whitaker on this honor.
