Be part of the team: Kelley-Krannert case competition

Posted on September 17, 2012 by Teresa Mackin

The Kelley School of Business Indianapolis will participate in the 14th Annual Kelley School of Business-Krannert School of Management Undergraduate Case Study Competition on October 26 and 27. It is a regular competition between teams of top students from the undergraduate divisions of Indiana’s two leading business schools. This year’s competition will be hosted by Kelley Bloomington.

Each school sends four teams composed of four students. Kelley sends three teams from Bloomington and one team from IUPUI, which reflects the relative enrollments of the two campuses. Participation in this case competition is a great résumé builder and provides good experience identifying problems and solutions faced by real companies.

To select the Kelley Indianapolis team, the school will hold a qualifying competition on Friday, October 12. Teams will receive a case study at 9:00 a.m. They will have until 4:30 p.m. to analyze the case and prepare a 15-minute presentation of their recommendations. Presentations will start at approximately 5:15 p.m. Teams will present to a panel of local business executives, including:

  • Andrew Warrington, president of Peerless Pump
  • Dan Courtney, president of Finishmaster
  • Bob Balcerzak, a business consultant
  • John Kirby, director of human resources at Pratt Visual Solutions

The winning team will represent Kelley Indianapolis at the Kelley-Krannert competition. It will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 26 and will conclude by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27.

To participate in the Kelley Indianapolis qualifying round, you must have completed I-Core and be available on October 12, 26 and 27 for the competitions. To apply, submit your team names and email addresses to Felicia Morris in BS 3024 by October 9 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants should be in teams of three or four students. However, two-member teams will be accepted and paired with another team of two. Competition details will be emailed to each participate.
