IU Kelley School of Business professor receives Distinguished Entrepreneurship Scholar Award

Posted on November 29, 2010 by Teresa Mackin

Donald F. Kuratko, a professor of entrepreneurship at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, received the Riata Distinguished Entrepreneurship Scholar Award earlier this month.

The national award originated at Syracuse University and now is presented at Oklahoma State University’s School of Entrepreneurship to recognize the research contributions of an outstanding scholar in the field of entrepreneurship.

Kuratko, who holds the Jack M. Gill Chair of Entrepreneurship and is the executive director of the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, received the award Nov. 10 at OSU.

As part of the award proceedings, Kuratko delivered a presentation on his particular area of research, corporate entrepreneurship. His talk entitled, “How Academic Research Shaped the Field of Corporate Entrepreneurship,” traced the development of this field from a fad to a strategy based upon the value of the years of academic research that has been devoted to it.

The inscription on the award presented to Kuratko reads: “For intellectual contributions that have advanced the discipline of entrepreneurship, inspired entrepreneurship scholars, and changed entrepreneurial practice.”

This is the third time that an IU Kelley School of Business professor has been recognized with this award. Jeffrey G. Covin, the Glaubinger Professor of Entrepreneurship, received it in 2005. Dean A. Shepherd, the Randall L. Tobias Chair in Entrepreneurial Leadership, received it in 2007.
